OXO On Barista Brain 9-CUP Coffee Maker

You must have seen OXO for quiet sometime now, but recently they have taken a plunge and entered the market for kitchen electronics and we believe that they did such a good job that they gave many high-end brands a run for their money. So if you are looking an intelligent coffee maker then OXO On can be put on your list.

When we put the OXO On Barista Brain to test we really felt that it was made considering the end-users in mind.  This elegantly designed coffee maker is not just ‘all show and nothing tell’, but it will bring a flavorful cup of coffee that you will never forget. Whether it is one of your expensive  coffee brand treat or your regular morning fuel, the brew will always be excellent. And this is all because of the Intelligent microprocessor also known as the Barista Brain. This programmer slowly pulses hot water over the coffee grind, which brings out the perfect flavor and the temperature controller brews the coffee precisely between 197-205c. This SCAA recommended range brews the coffee, creating the balance between body sweetness and acidity without adding in the more bitter flavors.

Moreover this smart maker includes an intuitive LED interface and dial. The dial is an easy way to select the startup time, which will automatically activate having your coffee ready before work. And after its done brewing the single cup or 9 coffee cups, it will start counting the time letting you know for how long your coffee’s been sitting there.

And the fun part is that your coffee will not get cold because the installation of a thermal carafe, which seals the heat inside and keeps your freshly-made coffee hot for a long time.

Although all this seems quiet overwhelming but we assure that the OXO On is very easy to use and handle. After the auto-start timer is set, all you need to do every day is fill the machine with water, add the filter and grinds, select the number of cups you need and press the button. The Barista brain will see to the rest. And while all of this goes on, you wouldn’t hear anything apart from a low gurgling sound, which is soothing instead of being disturbing.

OXO left no room for complaints and added one of the important features of using good plastic for making the coffee maker. This does not only make sit durable but also makes it look good sitting on the kitchen counter.

All that we could nitpick from this coffee maker was that it is a tall design which makes it hard to fit in standard sized kitchen cabinets, but who cares. If you own a coffee maker with such looks you would always want it on display and not hidden from sight.

Pros

  • OXO On Barista Brain incorporates some pretty cool features that gives other brands a good competition.
  • The brewing technique is very good, giving you a true picture of what coffee tastes like.
  • There is an auto-start option.
  • The exterior is quite sturdy and will be durable.

Cons

  • Apart from having a little longer brewing time, this coffee maker is very taller than many, making it hard to fit inside the cabinet.

Bonavita BV1900TS 8-Cup Carafe Coffee Maker

Bonavita BV1900TS 8-Cup Carafe Coffee Maker

Let’s take a look at the Bonavita’s brand new drip-coffee maker BV1900TS. This a reincarnation of the previous BV1800, but its far better than the older model. As it brings the same great performance to the table plus a few great extra features all in the same price.

What we personally like about this product is that it’s attractively stylish, has a nice brushed metal design and will not take up much room. As it is really compact and just needs a few inches to budge in your counter top. So you don’t have to remove a lot of your things for the BV1900TS to fit in.

There is also pre infusion mode which essentially lets you steep the coffee grounds for 30 seconds and right after that it will hit the brewing process and that is the secret behind the delicious steaming coffee that it makes.

As we try bringing you a true picture of every product, we did find some drawbacks for the Bonavita BV1900TS.  Considering it looks, we would say that it’s not that high-end and modern looking, with less premium looks but the performance is great and is a better budget buy. Need for speed may not be on every body’s priority list but may be a big concern for many. A lot of us need to get out of our house early but before that we need our daily dose of energy which is coffee of course. So waiting for it to brew is out of the question, we want ones that take seconds to make so that we drink it and get out.
